![]() Jesus is referred to as being holy and true. Jesus is recognized as the one who is addressing the angel of the church of Philadelphia. The believers had no reason to fear or worry at all because they kept the command of God and were patiently enduring whatever suffering or attack came their way. There was no reason to the believers were remaining faithful even in the face of opposition. Like the believers in Smyrna, the believers in Philadelphia had no warning to remain faithful to keep from falling away. And yet Jesus refers to them as not being children of God but rather being a part of the synagogue of Satan. Those Jews refused to believe but considered themselves children of God. The believers in Philadelphia chose to remain faithful to the message of Christ.īoth the believers of Smyrna and the believers in Philadelphia seemed to contend with a sector of Jews who refused to believe the Gospel message. The believers seemed prepared to resist any temptation to compromise spiritually, unlike some of the other churches we have studied. 13 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches” (Revelation 3:7-13, NIV). I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God and I will also write on them my new name. 12 The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. “To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: Today we look at the sixth church: the church in Philadelphia. Those who overcome will be blessed and they will receive and enjoy all the promises of God. For others, it is to keep the faith, trust, believe, or to persevere to the end even in times of suffering, no matter how things might appear.Įach individual must decide for themselves who they will follow and what they will believe. For some, it might be to repent and follow Jesus. Each letter to the churches has given a ray of hope for the believer, and a way to live.Įach person is encouraged to respond to what the Spirit of God says to the churches. The church of Sardis was a church that looked alive outwardly, but inwardly was spiritually dying.Įach church, each believer is encouraged to have an ear to hear to what the Spirit says. We’ve looked at the church in Ephesus, who had forsaken their first love the church at Smyrna, who experienced persecution and were encouraged not to fear the second death the church at Pergamum, where some engaged in a morally compromised lifestyle the church of Thyatira, where some believers chose to be tolerant regarding sin and teaching that was misleading believers. We’re almost done with our study of the seven churches that John addresses in Revelation. Remain Faithful, Even when facing opposition Philadelphia, a faithful church: a call to persevere and know you are loved. People will take notice and listen when they witness your faith. Always remember God is in control no matter how things may appear. Passionately seek the love of God and share it with those around you. Listen to the Spirit of God, be spiritually “on guard,” and press in: Choose today to be an overcomer, practice spiritual discipline and be guided by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. Let us not be fooled or seduced into thinking spiritual compromise or watered-down values are OK or acceptable to God. Sometimes fighting the spiritual battle before us can become so consuming that we take our spiritual eyes off God. Jesus knows the intense pressure you’re facing, the trials, suffering, and afflictions. Allow God, by His holy Spirit, to strengthen you. Consider the promises of God in this message and apply them personally. Jesus is the one who opens and shuts doors that no one else can open or shut. This message show us how those who overcome will be blessed and they will receive and enjoy all the promises of God. ![]() Always believe and keep His word hidden in your heart.
